Introducing Hot Yoga in Our "Yoga for Everyone" Sessions

On August 24th, 2024, it was a hot morning here in Gent, and I thought, why not introduce my yogis to the concept of Hot Yoga? That way, if they ever find themselves in a real Hot Yoga studio, they'll already have some familiarity with it.

I used to be skeptical about Hot Yoga myself. When I lived in Brazil, I’d see yoga studios near my home advertising Hot Yoga, and the idea of practicing in a 40°C room made me cringe!

However, I’m grateful that during my journey of studying yoga, I finally got the chance to experience Hot Yoga firsthand—after 20 years of practicing—with Mareike and Karel at Hot Yoga Gent. One day, I hope to be a regular at their studio! I felt like being in a combination of sauna and yoga, I love both, so it was a positive experience for me.

If you're curious about trying Hot Yoga but don't want to go alone, feel free to reach out to me—I’d be happy to join you.

I’m also excited to announce a new addition to our "Yoga for Everyone" sessions: Hot Yoga-inspired poses. Whether you're a seasoned yogi or new to the mat, Hot Yoga offers amazing benefits for all. Though we practice in the park, and Belgium’s temperatures hover around the 20s, we won’t quite get the full heat experience—but we’ll get close!

In our Hot Yoga-inspired sessions, you can expect a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere where everyone is encouraged to go at their own pace. Whether you’re here to improve flexibility, build strength, or find peace, these classes are designed for all levels.

What is Hot Yoga?

Typically, Hot Yoga is practiced in a heated room, with temperatures ranging from 32°C to 40°C (90°F to 105°F). The heat mimics the warm climate of India, where yoga originated. It helps warm up muscles quickly, enhances flexibility, and allows for deeper stretches.

But Hot Yoga is more than just about sweating. The heat promotes detoxification, helps burn calories, and can lead to deep relaxation and mental clarity.

What to Expect from a Hot Yoga Session

Here’s what Hot Yoga offers:

  • Detoxification: The heat promotes sweating, which helps eliminate toxins from your body.

  • Improved Flexibility: The warmth allows your muscles to stretch more deeply, increasing flexibility over time.

  • Cardiovascular Boost: Hot Yoga can elevate your heart rate, providing a solid cardiovascular workout.

  • Mental Clarity: The combination of movement, heat, and focused breathing creates a meditative state, reducing stress and improving mental clarity.

  • Community and Support: the sessions are inclusive and supportive, so everyone feels comfortable, no matter their experience level.

Tips for Your First Hot Yoga Session

If you're new to Hot Yoga, here are a few tips to help you get the most out of your practice:

  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water before and after the session.

  • Wear Light Clothing: Choose moisture-wicking fabrics for comfort.

  • Listen to Your Body: It’s important to go at your own pace. Rest when needed and don’t push yourself too hard, especially if you’re not used to the heat.

  • Bring a Towel and Mat: You’ll sweat a lot, so bring a towel and a non-slip yoga mat.

Join a Hot Yoga!

Whether you’re looking to push your physical limits, detox your body, or find peace of mind, Hot Yoga has something for everyone.

I am thrilled to bring this dynamic practice into our "Yoga for Everyone" sessions, and can’t wait to share this transformative experience with you again soon.

Namaste,

Ludmila
